Charley and her cousin, Finley.

Posted in Ramblings on July 28, 2011

My niece (my sister’s daughter), Finley, was six when Charley was born. My sister and her family live in California, but were in town when we came home with Charley last summer. It was a really big deal to Finley and she has always looooooved Charley. Like loves-loves her. And, of course I adore that because I desire nothing more than for them to grow up and be close. I imagine Finley always being like a big sister to her.

I think it would be fun to take a picture of just the two of them every time we’re together (usually twice a year) and then create a little book when they’re both a bit older.

So, far I have three …

Charley just a few days old:

Charley’s 1st birthday, getting mobile and spilling milk – eeeek!

(This picture cracks me up because Charley’s all “I’m outta here!” and Finley’s all “Uhhh … Aunt Jessica?!”

When they were here just a few weeks ago Finley wanted to be with Charley all the time (and dress just like her, too). Sometimes Finley would go over to play with Charley and Charley would do her grumpy-whine and Finley would say, “I think she’s not in the mood for me right now.” I thought it was so cute.

I’ve always said Charley acts as if she is a 4th born. She’s very laid back (Did I mention I take her quite often to Crossfit with me? She just hangs out in her exersaucer that she’s way outgrown and eats a plethora of food I always bring for her.) and loves being with other kids. So far she doesn’t have any issues with sharing. She even tries to hand her paci over to whomever may want it. When she was with her cousins, Mercer and Finley, she had such a good time. I wish we lived closer so that they could spend more time together. But, I am also very grateful for planes that can get us to one another in just a fraction of a day. We’re heading out to California at the end of August and I cannot wait to get the girls together again. Hopefully Charley will stay in the mood for Finley the whole time we’re out there. ; )

Awwww, she loves her so much! Two comments 1) Your back yard looks cArazy and could I at least once brush my daughter’s hair?

oooeeee….the new comment box…heehee…. isn’t it the most amazing ‘connection’ cousins have? Kellen thinks his cousins are his brothers and he speaks of the as if. They speak over the phone on a weekly basis and most time they just giggle….or laugh out loud…no words…just laughing…for minutes at a time…. and it totally cracks me and my sister up…soooooo funny! The idea of the little book is awesome!

I think the only time her hair was brushed was when I did it to put it in “Charley-look-a-like” pig-tails.

I love that! The day they can talk on the phone to each other will be a hoot I’m sure.
