I needed you …
… to remind me of the adventure that lies within, the routine that exists in my everydays that needed a break, the muscles I needed to exercise.
I needed you to stretch my brain … to teach me about the man who discovered my native country, teach me of the beautiful, tumultuous, and audacious life of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, to teach me the significance of Washington Irving’s writings, teach me the brilliance of flamenco dancing.
I needed you to give me room to sleep. Relax. Room to laugh.
I needed you to gift me uninterrupted time with my husband.
I needed you to take away the pain of being infertile. (you did the best you could)
I needed you to give me a chance to dream, to weigh the possibilities, to build strength, to okay vulnerabilities.
I needed you to give me intimate community. Something I haven’t had in quite some time.
I needed you for more reasons then I ever knew. Forgive us for second guessing our plans to visit. It’s just that life gets busy, stressful, and visits to far away places often times seem not worth it.
It was worth it.
I write indebted.
Thanks for showing me how very much I needed all that you could offer.

The above photo is one of only a few I took with my digital camera. All others were shot with film. I think I needed to document my trip in a way that didn’t leave me feeling obligated to present something beautiful here. It’s me, not you.
