Ruts are things we fall into when we work habitually rather than consistently. Switch off your auto-pilot.
~Cheryl Jacobs Nicolai
I’m on auto-pilot. It’s not necessarily a bad thing knowing that I got here from a crazy, wonderfully-busy 2009 year. But, as the year comes to a close and I’m gaining more and more time and room to breathe I’m realizing that my breaths aren’t coming in full and deep. They’re short and often, my eyes wandering, my brain swirling around in circles. I need to pull off to the side of the highway and take a breather. I already feel myself fighting it knowing that as soon as I do all the others are going to whiz by and I’m going to feel panicked. I don’t want to feel left behind. Wait for me! But alas … I need to breathe. There’s really no way around it and hey, I have the luxury. It’s winter and I am my own boss.
I write so that you will know that if my blogging becomes few and far between … maybe even obsolete for awhile … you’ll know why. (I have a feeling that sitting on the side of the highway might leave me “waving hi” more than normal. All I ask is that you honk as you drive by!) I am not dead, just breathing. And reading the last two Twilight books (sigh ….), drinking a Starbucks and walking lazily around the mall, sewing and painting, cleaning and re-organizing, decorating for Christmas, baking cookies and running on the treadmill, building fires, sipping on hot tea and reading blogs like this one and this one, catching up on DVR and a mile high stack of magazines. Ahhhhh … pulling off on the side of the highway doesn’t sound so bad after all. I think I’ll go get started right now …
xoxo … zzzzzzzzzzz ….

p.p.s. the quote above was found on the best blog post I’ve read in the year 2009. No lie. I think it needs an award. (Click here)
p.p.s.s. I leave you with a few photos I took this past week while in California … my niece and nephew. So scrumptious!
