There are all sorts of things that I will never forget about my wedding day, but one thing that especially sticks out is something our pastor said to us during the ceremony: “Learn the new importance of friendships. They will take on a new shape and meaning, but will be more important to you than ever before.”
This is so easy to forget when we find the one we love, the one we know we will spend the rest of our lives with. Our girlfriends can easily be pushed to the side so as to make room for the love in our life that is of utmost importance. And, then add kids and busy schedules … But, just as our pastor said I have realized with each passing year just how right he was. My girlfriends are more important to me now then they have ever been. My husband far exceeds so many of my expectations, but there are still needs that can only be met by my girlfriends. So, when I was emailed by Alison to see if I was available to photograph her and her best friends I was thrilled to be offered the opportunity. Her girlfriends were all going to be in town to celebrate her bachelorette party and although she is quite shy in front of the camera she wanted to sieze the opportunity. I think she’s brilliant for having thought of such a thing.
These girls have a connection to one another, all stemming from one, that cannot be replicated. They showed up to the session bright and early, with sleepy eyes, but souls filled with energy and love and thankfulness and quite obviously, laughter. And, so what’s a photographer to do, but laugh along with and be positively effected by the love exuding between them all. I left feeling grateful and humbled to have been asked to perform such an important job.
Alison, as your house will one day soon be filled with photographs from your wedding I am happy to know that also sprinkled around will be photographs of you and the girls who care the most about you. You are one incredibly loved person. And, rightfully so. Thanks for being fabulous!
love,
jc
